Training

Prof. Michael Drexler began his professional career in medical studies at the Technion Medical School in Haifa. Upon graduating, he specialized in general orthopedic at the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, and completed the training program successfully in 2010.

Between the years 2011-2013 he underwent extensive training as an orthopedic specialist in Hip and Knee Arhtroplasty in Toronto, Canada:

  • The Holland Orthopaedic & Arthritic Centre, Sunnybrook  for Joint Replacement operations, over 2500 Primary Arthroplasty operations are carried out each year.
    Prof. Drexler did his training under the supervision of Dr. Hugh Cameron.
  • The Mount Sinai hospital. The Tertiary Referral Center for Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Joint Replacements Surgery.
    Prof. Drexler did his training  under the supervision of Dr. Allan Gross.

In 2011 Prof. Drexler received the prestigious “EFORT” scholarship, and performed Knee and Hip Joints Replacement Surgery at the Charité Hospital, Berlin, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Carsten Perka

In addition, Dr. Drexler received a brief fellowship at the “Hospital for Special Surgery” in New York, under the supervision of Dr. Ranawat.



Staff Surgeon Appointments 

Prof. Drexler is a specialist orthopedic for Knee and Hip Joint Replacement. He worked as a senior physician in the Joint Replacement Unit at the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.
Today, Prof. Drexler is the head of the Orthopedic department in Assuta University hospital, Ashdod.

In addition, he also runs private orthopedic clinics in:

– Assuta, Calaniyot Center, Ashdod

– Assuta Hospital, Ramat Hayal, Tel Aviv

Prof. Drexler specializes in:

  • Primary and Complex Hip Replacements Surgery
  • Total and Unicompartmental Knee Replacement
  • Complex Knee Surgery – Revision and Osteotomy around the Knee
  • Surgical Correction of Patellar Malalignment


Research and Teaching 

Parallel to his clinical practice, Prof. Drexler is a Senior Lecture at Tel Aviv University, and has published many papers in leading orthopedic journals and has presented them at international conferences.

Most of his work focuses in two areas:

  • Biomechanical area- quantification and treatment of bone loss in the hip and  pelvis
  • Clinical research – the long term follow up of patients undergoing joint replacements and unique types of Knee and Hip operations

In addition, Prof. Drexler has extensive experience in the formal and clinical teaching of interns, medical students and staff who work in the operating theater. He was part of the Mount Sinai Hospital Surgical Skill Center in Toronto, Canada, where interns receive initial training in orthopedics.
